Compared to our other trips, we did this one with the camping car which gives a totally different experience then camping but also very lovely. We went to this region already two times because we really love the area and the atmosphere. Next to that it is also not far & the weather is always a little bit better then in Belgium. In general the perfect place to go to just for a weekend or if you have more time you can discover the region to the fullest. Especially in spring, when the first sun shines are coming through – this is the perfect roadtrip itinerary to kick-off the roadtrip season. 🫶

Hautvillers

📍 Only 3 hours south driving from Kortrijk and you arrive in the lovely Champagne region. The wine region within the historical province of Champagne in the northeast of France is best known for the production of champagne, the sparkling white wine that bears the region’s name. Our first stop in this region was in Hautvillers. Hautvillers is a quaint village peppered with family-run champagne houses offering tastings. Winding streets are lined with typical Champenois houses, as well as stores selling wine and food. You can stay here a whole day and enjoy some tastings and food if you want. You can walk around the area and pick out some champagne houses. The region is full of beautifull nature which makes it easy for you to pick out a camping spot. We went to this region 2 times already and set up our camp very close to hautvillers so we never needed to go far anymore after the tastings. 😍

❤️❤️ Marion-Bossier is a lovely champagne house were you have a little garden and you can taste several champagnes. We picked out the tasting of three champagnes – very lovely and sooo good – must do when you are here! (little side note: this champagne house is our absolute favorite as we fell for each other immensely during our first weekend in this region. At that time we were still friends but coming back here reminds us immensely of the beginning of our love for each other)

❤️ Next to Marion-Bossier Champage, Champagne Fedyk is also a must do the view is amazing and you have a lookout on the beautifull champagne region.

Mardeuil

📍Only 8 minutes from the lovely Hautvillers you can set up your tent/place your camping car alongside a river named La Marne close to the village Mardeuil. A very quit place were it is unlikely to run into people. We stayed here for 2 days and took time to relax completely. We really enjoy this type of getaways where we can disconnect and have time to come to ourselves and enjoy the basics in life and those little happy moments. In general we don´t do a lot during these relax days but the main things we enjoy is our home made camping coffee ( you need to trust me – camping coffee is really something else you must try! ) We personally prefer our bialleti coffee machine – discovered this in Italy and since then we always use this coffee machine as it is also very practical to use while camping & the coffee made with is, is delicious. Next to the coffee we read a book, played a card game or go for a run / hike to discover the area Next to that we always take time to prepare our apero to start our evening. Tip – go to the town to buy some apero in the local stores instead of the supermarkets – very much appreciated and you will have good qualify products to prepare a delicious apero 🤩  Cheers to a cosy evening !

Sezanne

📍 Only one hour away from our wild camping spot is Sezanne located. Sezanne is a very cosy little village where you must try the one bakery that is available in the town. After a walk in the town – short because it´s not that big we went to a camping nearby. Now and then we decide to pick out a cosy camping. A lot of people have a negative perception of campings, important here is that you take time to search a cosy camping – nothing is more unpleasant as being stuck at a big commercial camping ground where you have the chance of a lot of noise, unpleasant neighbours and dirty/unsanitary toilets and bathrooms big. Personally I prefer small campings, located in nature or surrounded with a nice view. Nowadays there are a lot of cosy campings available. Mostly I search a suitable camping while driving from one place to another and I make sure that I can feel the vibe of the camping by checking the pictures. If you cannot find one, you can always rely on my suggested campings. While staying at this camping the main activities we did was go for a long run – if any interest please let me know and then I will share a ½ marathon running tour. Worth the effort – beautiful view 🤩

Reims

📍1 hour from Sezanne you have Reims, it´s the unofficial capital of the Champagne wine-growing region, and many of the champagne houses headquartered there offer tastings and cellar tours. If you have some time, definitely visit this city and it´s impressive church. Reims is a lovely city where you can walk around, have lunch, wine & dine and enjoy the cosy atmosphere.

🍴Mamie is a cosy restaurant in the city center where you can enjoy some delicious foods.
